THE KENYAN MUSIC SCENE

Let's dive deep into an industry that's worth 11.9million dollars in 2023 and expected to show
an annual growth of 7.97%.The Kenyan music scene is an industry that I personally feel is slacking off. When you look at the Kenyan music space , you see sauti sol, nyashinski , Chris kaiga, just   a few who know how to command a show and have it packed fully.

Do Kenyans actually appreciate our own music?
The Kenyan music scene has a Luke warm presence  from the fans . Not because the talent isn't there, by far Kenyan music is the most authentic and genuine music you can ever listen to ( saying this as someone who consumes Kenyan content wholly) . For fans to actually appreciate our own music, more diversity needs to be created by the artists and more consistency to be  displayed.

Nigerian scene Vs the Kenyan scene
It's no surprise that the Nigerian music scene has proven to attract a wide  audience not only in their country but also around the world making afrobeats the most streamed music in Nigeria and in Kenya.

The rise of gengetone.
You can't talk about the Kenyan music scene without mentioning our very own genre, gengetone. Gengetone vibes rose from the early 2000s with the likes of nonini and juacali . The music then faded away and came to rise again later with the likes of ethic, boondocks gang , triomio just to mention a few . Gengetone music is purely vibes on vibes and has proven to be the most successful music to be streamed by  young Kenyans all round.
I have hosted  two Kenyan musicians on my podcast and you can listen to the episodes linked below to have their perspective on how  it feels to be an artist in the Kenyan music scene.let's get candid :luyha heat, Captain charisma
