ARE KENYAN BOARDING SCHOOLS REALLY WORTH IT?

Let's dive  deep into boarding schools, more specifically public boarding schools  . In Kenya 59%of boarding schools are public  and to be fair more needs to be done in terms of how they administer their rules and regulations to the children .

Now a lot can be said about how public schools are equaled to  being in prison( believe me I know) , having survived boarding school for almost eight years ( from class 4 _ form4) , there is nothing that can convince me that there is a benefit of studying in a public boarding school as compared to a day school and here are some few reasons why I think that.

1.LACK OF A PARENTAL BOND
A parent plays a very crucial role in bringing up   a child. Having spent a better part of my childhood in boarding school ,I came to realise that I lost touch with my parents . I can assure you that they won't even know what my favourite colour or food is , let alone what my  life interests are.

2. COMPARISON
When children are in a boarding school , they get to interact with  various children from different aristocratic classes and values as a result of this , a child may end up comparing themselves to those of a higher standard than them

3. PROTEST BEHAVIOUR
Ever wondered why public boarding schools strike, burn down their domitories among other rebellious things , this mainly stems from something called protest behaviour.  Remember this  are children who are below the age of 18 hence require some guidance on how to go about their lives . Most of our guardians come from a different generation and have various ways on how to discipline or air out their views , as a result to this , the child might take criticism in a very harsh way and react to that by resulting to violence.

This are just but a few reasons why I feel like boarding schools are just a waste of time and energy to our children . Not that it's all negative I mean boarding schools help one master a routine and be  in check with their schedules , one is  also able to survive and  adapt to the various hardships in life
