IS PROVIDENCE REALLY EVERYTHING IN AN AFRICAN HOME ?

Being raised in a traditional African home had never been a bed of roses especially when it comes to communicating  your feelings and airing out your opinions to your parents .
African households are mainly focused on providing the essentials. By this I mean , as long as you're clothed, have a roof over your head and never sleep hungry you should be more than ok as a human being. But  are you really ok? Being human isn't only about having the essentials before you , it means expressing your emotions, learning new skills .. meeting people and making connections, taking risks in careers,in love and in every little life experience that you go through. And most importantly , communicating  your feelings with the right people and having them validate how you truly feel really  uplifts your self worth as a human being . The society paints this picture of a parent being the provider of a household and really treating them like" gods "  to a point where if a child is traumatized by a parents experience it's always " but she's your mother or he's your father?" And never "wow, what could a parent do to actually make this child traumatized?"  When one is traumatized, they experience a lot of hurt and end up withdrawing from the people who are supposed to be close to them .

For me , growing up in an African home , I have never complained about the providence that my parents give me , but I feel like they have failed in creating a safe space for me to  share what  I feel and actually have my own opinions validated .wanna know more , you can check out my podcast on Spotify and Google podcast or click the link in the description box below.
