"If the shoe fits, wear it: Kimani Ichung'wah's Al Jazeera interview was a whole vibe!"
ICHUNGWAH VS MEHDI HASAN
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah faced a tough time defending President William Ruto’s administration during a widely circulated interview on Al Jazeera that aired on 26/02/2025. Not only did he claim that police routinely open fire on demonstrators, stating, “It is just the nature of our demonstrations—where they turn violent, and police have to intervene. We all regret the loss of life during the 2022 protests and even those of June last year. Unfortunate that lives had to be lost.” Even with red bottoms , estimated at $1k, the man still could not stand on business. Mehdi asked Kimani about the politicians who share their wealth on social media, and Kimani was quick to claim that he has cautioned MPs who act that way by telling them; "Hey bro, this is not good". But before we get to that , can we talk about how there was no accountability for the 82 abductions that took place and the 63 lives that were lost during the protests . We do know that police brutality is Kenya"s pandemic {after corruption of course}, and to have a leader who swore to protect the lives of people would literary have no remorse when the lives of innocent kenyans fighting for their constitutional rights are lost and people are abducted left , right and center form their homes , threatened with their life and even some do not get to return to their families and those that return are scarred for life {Lord only knows what happens in there }.the politician noted how active and participatory Kenyans are on issues online, but claimed most of them are not true.
Clarifying his remarks in the interview, he said, “There was a misconception that every abduction was by security agencies. What I meant was that if someone violates the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, the DCI or police should arrest them and take them to court. Security agencies have no business abducting anyone .A guest at the Head to Heads show had indicated that on a recent visit to Kenya, she witnessed rampant corruption. The woman said she witnessed traffic police officers take bribes along the roads. “My uncle who was driving said that officers commonly take bribes and it happens all the time,” the woman said.
